In honor of New Mexico Grown Month (September 12th – October 7th), the Nutrition Services Department served locally grown meals today to students and staff in every school. This means 100% of the items and ingredients that went into preparing the main meals came from our local farmers and ranchers across New Mexico. Check out these delicious tacos!

Hispanic Heritage Month is observed annually from September 15 to October 15. It is a time to appreciate and celebrate the colorful cultures, rich histories, and diversity of the American Latino community. The idea for Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated throughout the latter half of September and the first half of October, began as a way to promote the history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic-Americans — specifically, those whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Communities mark the achievements of Hispanic and Latino Americans with festivals and educational activities.

Both students attend Arrowhead Park Early College High School and created Tutoring by Two during the pandemic when schools at LCPS went into remote learning in 2020. Tutoring by Two provides tutoring services from kindergarten math to Algebra 2. Tutoring by Two also offers 3 types of help: lesson review, homework help, and test review. My name is Kirsten Letofsky. I am excited to be part of team Sonoma. Personally, I just moved to the area and am the proud father of two children Isabell 19 and Kaleb 21. Isabella will be joining me in New Mexico and attending school. I am a passionate educator who is committed to equality and social justice for all learners. Most recently, I was in Portland, Oregon where I lived for 7 years and served as an Instructional Specialist, Middle School Assistant Principal, and Elementary Principal. Over my career I have taught K-5, worked as a Bilingual Program Manager, Instructional Coach, wrote Science and Literacy integrated curriculum at University of Berkeley and continue to teach prospective and inservice teachers in higher education. I am continuing my professional education at New Mexico State University pursuing a PhD in Curriculum, Instruction, and Educational Leadership. It is with a great enthusiasm that I join the amazing Sonoma community. I look forward to connecting with you and serving the community.
